Fall Courses 2008

Musical Theatre for Children  5 to 7                          Saturdays  10:30 - 11:30

This program is a fun and educational way to introduce a combination of music, dance and drama into your child’s life in an integrated manner.  While opening their eyes to the wide aspects of the arts and participating in fun, educational activities they will develop fundamental skills in all three aspects of musical theatre.  A group vocal warm up and lesson will introduce correct breathing, vowel placement, pitch control and some basic music theory.   Our drama sessions will consist of scene work and improvisational games designed to spark your child’s imagination.  Basic jazz and choreography are introduced to develop a connection between the musical and physical worlds of song.  Students will use their newfound skills to learn several different scenes and songs, which will be performed at an end of the year recital.  Our Musical Theatre program is designed to introduce young students to the world of musical theatre, while focusing on group work and building self-confidence on stage in a fun, structured manner.

Musical Theatre for Age 8 to 10                                     Saturdays  11:30 - 1:00

A fun and exciting approach to theatre; this class will introduce students to the art of acting, singing and dancing. Vocally we will focus on breathing technique, tone, pitch control, placement and phrasing.  The Drama sessions will focus on improvisation exercises, group skits, monologues, individual script work, character sketches as well as different exercises to help build a versatile actor.  The Dance portion of the class will focus on basic jazz technique, rhythm and choreography. In addition, we will explore techniques such as clown acting, instinct work, and individual script work. There will be a year end recital where students will showcase their achievements in the form of Musical Theatre.

Musical Theatre for Age 11-13                                     Saturdays  1:00 - 2:30 pm

This class will combine the three art forms of singing, dancing and acting. Students in this age group will learn how to develop their inner character. Vocally, students will explore proper projection, phrasing, tone, and pitch. This Musical Theatre Program is perfect for any young teen looking to get more involved in the arts.  Whether you’re a beginner singer, actor or dancer this program will help build the skills necessary to be involved in a musical.  Musically as a group we will explore the fundamental techniques of proper singing, good phrasing and correct breathing.  During our dance sessions, students will do a group warm up and work on jazz technique and floor work.  Choreography will also be given on a weekly basis and built on week to week.  In Drama we will explore improvisation exercises, monologues, skits, group work and a variety or games and exercises to help build versatile performers. We will also introduce the art of clown work, which encourages students to act on instinct. At  year’s end, there will be a recital showcasing their newly developed talents. 

Fame:  Musical Theatre for High School Students (Ages 14+)

 

Thursdays 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

This Musical Theatre program is the perfect environment for young performers to grow and build key performance skills.  With a diverse class of trained singers, dancers, and actors working together it’s an experience like no other.  Students will be encouraged to try new disciplines and further develop the skills they already have.  The class will be divided into three segments: dance, music and drama.  Each discipline will focus on both fundamentals and advanced technique, depending on the ability and training levels of each student.  During the dance sessions, a warm up will start the class followed by floor work and choreography.  Dancers will work in groups based on skill level and experience.  All students will participate in a group vocal warm up and voice session.  Vocal technique will include proper breathing technique, vocal placement, pure vowel sounds and phrasing appropriate to the musical theatre discipline.  Our Dramatic studies will include improvisation exercises, monologues, group skits and scenes.  We will also be working on character development, scene study and performance technique. The year will end with a recital, showcasing the work developed throughout the year.  This is a great way for any young performer to see the work and dedication involved in show business, and all the satisfaction it brings after the show.

                                             Fall Courses 2008

Intermediate Acting                   Ages 11 to 15            Saturdays  3:45- 4:45pm

This course concentrates primarily on group scene studies and individual character development within these scenes.  The students gain further experience through improvisational exercises, acting exercises, vocal/movement exercises and practical acting terminologies.  The class will work on  a variety of scenes from both dramatic and comedic plays that are appropriate to their age group.

Improv Acting                              Ages 11 to 17            Saturdays  4:45- 5:45pm

Rock Vocals                                Ages 11 to 15

This course will deal with the technique and presentation that goes into s good rock singer. Students will explore different genres of rock from mellow ballads to harder edged songs. Later, they will work with the Oakville Academy’s “Garage Band” where different vocalists in the class will either be featured as lead vocalists or back up singers in the end of the year performance.
