remaining balance for your child’s costume will be billed upon

handed out until they have been fully paid for.
VOLUNTEERS
This year, we will
once again be asking for at least one parent volunteer per class to
supervise their child’s class throughout the dress rehearsal and show.
As a “thank you” for their help, volunteers will be given a $25 voucher
which can be put towards dance fees for the 2012/2013 Dance Season
(no cash value). Volunteers need not purchase a ticket for
themselves, as they will be with their class at all times. If you are
interested, please fill out the volunteer form and return it to the
Front Desk as soon as possible. Volunteers will be accepted on a
first-come first-served basis. For parents whose children will be
performing in the Senior Recitals, please be aware that classes who do
not have a parent volunteer will not be able to enjoy the show from the
audience before and after they dance.
PRE-DANCE
PRESENTATIONS
Our Pre-Dance
classes will not be participating in our Recitals due to their young
age. We will be holding a separate special in-house presentation for
these little dancers on Sunday, June 10th , 2012 where you
will be able to watch your child perform in our spacious studio theatre.
A tutu and headpiece will be made for your child at a cost of $42.00
plus HST. After the performance you and your child are welcome to join
us for snacks and beverages at our special “Tea Party”. We will announce
exact times for this special event once they have been confirmed.
PORTRAITS
Junior recital
dancers will have their class photos taken in the hour before their show
after they have rehearsed on stage. Dancers in Senior Recitals will have
their class photos taken during dress rehearsals at the studio.

DANCE
The
Oakville Academy for the Arts offers a range of exciting dance
opportunities for students of all ages. Our teachers are trained to
introduce and develop dancers of all levels to a high caliber of
performance. The recreational programs are designed specifically for the
enjoyment of the students wishing to explore all or some of the various
dance forms. Students are evaluated and slotted into the appropriate skill
levels and perform annually at the Academy’s Recital
Hip Hop is the newest dance craze. A "fun" high energy dance form,
which combines jazz with street style dance, made famous through music
videos. Hip Hop reflects North American urban culture and allows dancers
to express their individualism like no other dance form. Hip Hop is
perfect for those without dance experience who want exercise, the
opportunity to meet new friends and to have a blast. Levels range from
beginner to competitive.
Jazz is an energetic dance form that combines current dance and
music trends. The classes consist of a warm-up, down the floor
progressions and a stylized combination.
Tap
develops precision, coordination and rhythmic appreciation as it uses the
body as an instrument. Classical, Funk and Hoofin styles are covered with
particular emphasis put on the quality of sound and technique.
Ballet
is the most elementary and important of all dance instruction. Ballet is
considered to be the foundation of all dance forms. All Ballet students
will follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus.
Ballet
Foundations
is a
specially designed program for students interested in starting ballet or
going back to the program after a hiatus. Ages 10 to 13 and then 14 and
over are given intense but fun training to bring their skills up to the
appropriate R.A.D. age level over the course of the year. This is an
excellent method to start this beautiful dance form a little later in life
and produce stunning results.
Lyrical
dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz
techniques. Usually inspired by slow music, lyrical reflects the actual
lyrics of the songs, and allows dancers to express their inner emotion.
Dancers gain fluidity of movement, grace, control, and individual
expression. Lyrical is offered to students ages 13 and up.
Acrobatics
combines flexibility and strength of the entire body. Artistic illusions
are created by incorporating tricks, balance work and tumbling in addition
to dance steps to link each acro element together.
There are
classes available for beginner, intermediate and advanced students in all
dance forms. Please check with the Registration Centre for times and
availability.
