Summer Camps sellout every year due to their popularity and outstanding reputation within the community. Please don't delay registering to avoid disappointment!

The Summer Arts Adventure Camp at The Oakville Academy for the Arts is designed to provide students ages 3 to 12 years of age, the opportunity to explore their chosen disciplines or a variety of areas in an environment that supports, encourages and celebrates their creativity. All programs are developed using educational principals to inspire growth while opening doors to how valuable and fun the arts can be. Extended care is available from 7:30am – 6:00pm and will include supervised games, crafts and videos, at a fee of $5.00 per hour and must be prepaid at registration. We kindly ask that Campers bring their peanut free lunches and two snacks. Water bottles are not necessary as we have purified water on site.

Half Day Kinderschool Summer Arts Adventure Camp

The Kinderschool Summer Arts Adventure Camp at the Oakville Academy for the Arts will take children 3 to 5 years** of age through a fun and magical introduction to the expressive arts.  The camp will be offered five mornings a week, in 8 one-week sessions, beginning Monday July 5th, 2010 and ending Friday August 27th, 2010. Each one week session will offer young campers the opportunity to explore, in depth, a core fine art experience.  In addition to the core art experience offered daily in our summer art studio space, campers will take part in music and movement, dance, free play and snack in our fun and fully equipped Kindergarten classroom.  Music and movement will be offered on Tuesday and Friday mornings, while dance (ballet and jazzy hip-hop) will be offered daily.

Campers have their choice of Monday through Friday (5 morning option), Monday, Wednesday and Friday (3 morning option) or Tuesday and Thursday (2 morning option).

 

**Children must be three years of age or older by the end of June, 2010 and be fully toilet trained in order to participate in this program.

Camp begins daily at 9:00 am and concludes at 11:30 am.  Campers will be lead to the front foyer for dismissal by their teachers.  Due to possible allergies, the OAA will provide a healthy snack and drink daily. 

        

 

Session 1       Passionate Painting        

Children will explore tempera, watercolour and acrylic paints as well as a variety of painting surfaces such as watercolour paper, canvas and an array of found objects.     

July 5-9          .

 

Session 2      Crazy About Clay

Campers will have opportunities to experiment with sculpting media such as dough, baker’s clay, plasticene, potter’s clay and edible fondant. An assortment of sculpting tools ranging from found tools to professional potter’s tools will be offered.

July 12-16

 

Session 3      Cool Collage 

Children will explore fixed (taped or glued) collage and transient (not attached) collage.  Materials available for experimentation will include exotic and classic papers, fabric, photographs and found natural objects. Opportunities for multi-media collage and assemblage will be presented as well.

July 19-23

 

Session 4       Tantalizing Textures and Textiles

Using an abundant array of fabrics in glorious colours and textures, children will have opportunities to tye-dye, weave, make collage, sew and more! 

July 26-30

 

Session 5        Welcome to Light and Shadow World      * Shortened week             

Using scrims and small scale light and shadow theatres, children will explore the properties of light and shadow.  As well, campers will have opportunities to work with paper to create shadow puppets and present shadow plays to their peers.

August 3-6 (4 day week)

 

Session 6       Passionate Painting II – Print-making

Children will explore tempera, watercolour and acrylic paints as well as a variety of painting surfaces such as watercolour paper, canvas and an array of found objects. Mono-printing using tempera paint will be a focus during this session.

Session 7       Open Studio                                     

Children will have opportunities to make meaningful choices from all of the art media offered in the previous sessions.  Campers will be encouraged to experiment for the first time or re-visit a particular medium that captured their interest.

August 16-20

 

Session 8        Open Studio II                                    

Children will have opportunities to make meaningful choices from all of the art media offered in the previous sessions.  Campers will be encouraged to experiment for the first time or re-visit a particular medium that captured their interest.

August 23-27

Arts Integration Camp 2010

Love to do lots of different things? Not sure what to try? This is the perfect camp for you!
The Arts Integration Camp plunges you into a wide variety of all the best the Arts has to offer.
Campers are divided into age appropriate groups and work with our university qualified, professional and passionate Instructors. No previous skills are required.

Discover all you can be in this array of Drama, Hip Hop, Jazz, Visual Arts, Musical Theatre and Music.

2 Week Garage Band Camp  

 

Half Day             Ages 7-12

 

This is a perfect two week camp designed to ignite your inner “Rock Star”. This camp will be taught by our highly qualified Music Instructors. Campers will take part in vocal, percussion, guitar and song writing classes. At the end of the two weeks our new “Rock Stars” will showcase their talent in a final concert and take home their CD.

 

July 5th - 16th (two weeks)

Arts Fundamental Camp          

 

Half Day          Ages 7-12

 

Designed for students with a passion for the Fins Arts... this program will take young artist to the next level. Students will work on a number of different projects including studies of life drawing, painting techniques and sculpture. Each student is individually evaluated, and his or her personal goals are addressed to make this an unsurpassed opportunity for artistic growth.

2 Week Musical Theatre Camp

           

Full Day             Ages 8-12

 

If you love Musical Theatre and non-stop fun, you won’t want to miss this one!! Put yourself at centre stage while Acting, Dancing and Singing in this extravaganza.  Our triple threat program receives rave revues as the most intensive, professional and well rounded program around.

 

Work with our university qualified, industry working and passionate Instructors in all areas as you expand your abilities, improve your technique, develop your confidence and experience the sheer joy of performance.  The day will consist of Stretch and Dance programs, Drama instruction in physical, improvisational and rehearsed acting, as well as character development.

Vocal awareness, technique and breathing training combined with other related workshops such as relaxation and audition techniques will also be enjoyed.  Come be centre stage with the Oakville Academy for the Arts.  This is your place to shine!
